How It Works

In the 1-on-1 University program, you can take almost any college course offered at major universities (as well as more than 20 AP courses). You are paired with one of our professors for a unique, 1-on-1 customized learning experience.

Courses consist of real-time video call lessons with our professors – most of whom have taught at brick-and-mortar universities (Yale, Harvard, London School of Economics, and others). 1-on-1 University courses are designed to be at the same level of rigor (and sometimes a higher level of rigor) as comparable courses at the most competitive brick-and-mortar universities.

Class activities can be modified to suit your specific needs and class discussions can be geared towards your particular interests as you are guided through the course by a professor who has learned your strengths, weaknesses and interests more thoroughly than he or she could in a traditional classroom setting.

At the end of the course, you receive an official 1-on-1 University transcript including a grade, course description and certification statement.  Transcripts can be submitted as part of college and grad school applications, demonstrating aptitude to admissions officers.  Additionally, the professor is a great person to ask for a college recommendation letter, since the learning experience allows the professor to get to know you individually and enables the professor to communicate your strengths well to admissions officers.

Why It Works

At 1-on-1 University, finding a class schedule that works is easy: You arrange the full course calendar with your professor at the start of the semester, allowing for a schedule that takes into account all of your other expected activities and time commitments.   When you are enrolled in a summer course, you can maintain your summer job, camp or vacation plans. If you are enrolled in a course during the school year, you can maintain your after-school and weekend activities.

Moreover, many traditional colleges don’t allow you to take specialized courses until you have completed a number of full-length prerequisite courses and core requirements, often preventing you from taking the courses that you are truly interested in until sophomore or even junior year. At 1-on-1 University, your professor puts you into the heart of compelling courses as quickly as possible, enabling you to explore exciting topics right away and helping you discover future college majors and potential career paths.
